Speaker 1:

Hello everyone and welcome to another story time with when girls talk books. I'm Kylie, I'm Susie and we are celebrating our one-year anniversary.

Speaker 2:

Happy anniversary, babe. Tears Sad, not sad Happy anniversary, baby tears, sad, not sad, happy, I don't know. We're sad, every other day.

Speaker 1:

We're just sad girls. It's okay, sad girl. Um, so to celebrate the anniversary, we are gonna have new merch, so be on the lookout for that. It'll be in links in everything in our instagram bio and any bios for the episode so you can go over there and take a look at it. So that'll be released by the time this episode comes out.

Speaker 2:

Kind of funny that I wore our old merch on the day you were gonna and you can also get the old merch.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's good. Okay, it's cute and it holds up well. Yes, today we're gonna do. You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle I think that's how you pronounce it and this was recommended as, if you liked how to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, that you should read this, and that immediately sold it for me because I love that movie, and then that was a pretty much immediate yes from you. Yep as well. What was your star rating? Six and a half out of five. I love this book.

Speaker 1:

Six and a half out of five. Okay, okay, the golden six and a half out of five. Okay, okay, the golden six and a half. Yeah, I very closely almost gave it five stars. I did give it four and a half. It's gonna be my final, yes, but I feel like this book was much more like deeper than it, like it's a rom-com, but there was a lot of like I don't know depth to it. To me, okay, about like being in relationships and especially like I'm worried.

Speaker 2:

I always over, analyze it. So the whole time I'm like Susie. It's not that deep, Susie, it's not that deep.

Speaker 1:

No, I it's so deep.

Speaker 2:

Oh my God, I definitely did and I felt like definitely had some depth, which gave it more of a pop to me like you would think you knew where this was going, or like I thought I knew how I felt about a certain character, and then I'm like, oh no, I don't know how to feel now.

Speaker 1:

I will be very honest. I had to look up who our love interest was going to be. Yes, because universe Really. Yes, because I didn't want to hate on anybody or get really attached to anybody unless I knew that's where this was going. So I did a little like da da, da, da da. So then I knew that it is our two characters and I was like, ok, good, then I could bring back into it. Ok.

Speaker 2:

I was going in blind Could bring back into it. Okay, I was going in blind, could bring back into going in blind. So I was hopping on all kinds of hatred trains so, yeah, okay, I did one hatred trade stayed true stayed tried and true.

Speaker 1:

oh yeah, I did the same thing, though, where I was like, oh, over here, over here, over there, and then I felt like I was kind of like all over the place and I had to, like, bring it back into focus. I'm like, who am I actually supposed to be really focusing on here? Specifically because it talks a lot about like her friend group and stuff, and I was having a hard time with names and keeping track of everybody and this is this and that's who.

Speaker 2:

I still I think I've forgotten a few Fair. We were well into the book and I was like who?

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, right, that's your name, yes, but I enjoyed it. I loved it, but I just I needed for my own brain to know who are we talking about.

Speaker 2:

We listen and we don't judge.

Speaker 1:

Thank, you, suzy. Okay, let's get into it. Okay, so we start out at a drive-in date and In the winter, in the winter, yeah, date. And in the winter, in the winter, yeah, a drive-in date with Nicholas and Naomi and they have like the best date. I think one of the best parts about this book was the inner dialogue of Naomi was so spot-on. It was a female brain beyond relatable too, and especially she's our age in the book.

Speaker 2:

I think that helped us connect with her. I'm so glad you agreed, because usually everyone's going to be like, okay, can I get literally anyone else's point of view?

Speaker 1:

But this time I was like you know what? Yes, girl, I laughed so hard.

Speaker 1:

She even explains as they're sitting there at the drive-in, I have my hand just in the center seat with my palm up in case he touches it and oh, he's having a mint. Oh, maybe you know. Oh, he is gonna kiss me. Oh, he had two mints. He's definitely gonna kiss me. Like the little over analyzing of every little thing was so good and I loved it. But so she has the date and she's like I want him to kiss me and it's just like the best kiss ever and they have the best time. So it's kind of like a look back and then immediately in the book you see that they are still together and they're engaged. But their relationship is awful. There's trouble in paradise. It is so bad. They do not like each other and she specifically doesn't like his mom.

Speaker 2:

His mom causes a lot of problems. Okay, there is mother-in-laws and there's monsters-in-laws.

Speaker 1:

This one's a monster-in-law she is very much a monster-in-law and um. So once they got engaged, naomi said there was a. There was a very obvious shift in Nicholas before they got engaged and then Nicholas after they got engaged. It's kind of weird how that happens sometimes, huh.

Speaker 2:

You know, just like a light switch flips mom.

Speaker 1:

If people want to read into it, they can read into it, but so it can happen. And the biggest thing is like his mom is very overbearing and kind of like takes control of the wedding, very codependent on him, and she steamrolls the entire wedding. She picks the flowers, she picks this, she picked out Naomi's dress Because, of course, which was like $6,000. And she is paying for a majority of the wedding.

Speaker 2:

She insists on paying and then complains on how expensive it is.

Speaker 1:

Yes, gotta love it, and so her and Nicholas are very much not. They're also like getting along.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they're almost at the point where I feel like everyone even if this isn't forever, there comes a point in a long-term relationship where you just kind of hate each other sometimes. Yeah, For a little little while I'm not saying it's forever not saying it's healthy, but anyway, the point is you're like it just turns into this never-ending tit for tat where you're, oh my god. And you're like why I've never hated you even more? Yeah, ever. And then you add family stress, wedding stress it's a.

Speaker 1:

I think it's very, very normal for people who have been together for a long time to have those moments of like sibling, bickering almost Speaking from experience when you have a kid, sometimes, man, you get into little tiffs on stuff. Well, it's not your fault, he's annoying. I just think it's normal. That's normal. I just think it's normal. I think just if you're together for a long time in general, like you go through phases of like I can't stand you right now, that's true.

Speaker 2:

Or when you first move in together and you were raised very differently.

Speaker 1:

I tell people Sorry, honey, but like I tell people, if you move in together, be prepared to almost break up. Yes Doesn't mean that you're going to, clearly, but it's hard. It is hard living with someone for one. Yes, so they also, Nicholas and Ann. We also moved in together, so that was also a big shift. Talk about a pressure cooker? Yeah, and he's the one that wanted this house, so make that apparent. He picked out the house and then they were excited to move in together at the time and then it's just been horrible and they both hate it and they're both miserable. And he's a dentist.

Speaker 1:

So, just to sprinkle that in there.

Speaker 2:

And I sorry, dentist, but you all need to stop staring at our teeth. When you go Hi, I'm a dentist, we're all already nervous. And then you all do staring at our teeth when you go hi, I'm a dentist, we're all already nervous. And then y'all do this the whole time that you're talking and I'm just like yes, I had braces, what else do you wanna fucking know? Okay, like, come on, I hate it, had to get that off my chest, so watch your back.

Speaker 1:

Okay. So that's kind of the underlying of where we start with their relationship and things like that. So Naomi is also very prideful and her car has a flat tire and she has told Nicholas their entire relationship that she fixes things herself. She changes her oil, she can change a tire. How dare you think that she can't? I was like, really, I'm gonna figure it out, though naomi is not really that. She takes it to the mechanic and tells the mechanic not to tell him, so something I would do yeah, I'm fixing that tire.

Speaker 2:

I'm proving, I'm proving to everyone that I was right she's over there on youtube and I'm like pushing my car to her like youtube is free.

Speaker 1:

So her tire is, and so her co-worker at the junkyard, which is like an antique shop kind of sort of, is taking her home and she really wants to make it home before Nicholas is home, because then he's going to see that she didn't take her car to work today because the tire is flat and she's very nervous about it. So also, leon kind of drives this like piece together car it's, it's holding on by a thread and uh, so he pulls up and nicholas is already there and she's like okay, yeah, I'll see you later. Bye, and she doesn't really know, leon, that well, they're not big plant friends, they're all kind of friends that work at the junkyard, but they're not specifically really close, okay, and uh, I say okay, like I didn't read the book and you're explaining it to me Anyway.

Speaker 1:

Um and so, as he's dropping her off, he's like, oh, hey, nicholas, and she's like like I just wanted to sneak in. And um, she's like like I just wanted to sneak in and he's like you coming to game night and she kind of like scoffs or laughs and he's like what was that about? And she's like you never come to game night. And he's like, yeah, I think I am going to come to game night Because she laughed at it. So why wouldn't he come to game night, of course?

Speaker 1:

now he's going to yeah, which he doesn't really get along with her friends at all. Game night duh, duh, duh. It's a mess. He doesn't get along with them at all and never really has. Doesn't really try, I would say, with her friends. No, he doesn't, and she resents him for it in a way Chapters like one through eight.

Speaker 2:

Nicholas was very. I don't like this guy. Okay, very I could have had a heyday with the fan cast for first parts of that. Yes, that's okay.

Speaker 1:

You really don't like him In the first couple chapters. You hate him and that's why I was like I need to know where this is going. Am I gonna? I have to mentally prepare myself, because I'm not going to be able to forgive him if I don't already know. This is where this is going. Oh, because I'm a little bit harsh, like you know.

Speaker 2:

You no.

Speaker 1:

Never. So like mentally, I had to do it Okay. So he's like I'm going to game night. She's like, mentally, I had to do it Okay. So he's like I'm going to game night. She's like okay.

Speaker 2:

And I'm going to be as much of an ass as I possibly can.

Speaker 1:

And he has the moment of like I want to take cookies into the office tomorrow because you know it's my day off, and like good, people bring cookies to the office and blah, blah, blah, blah. I'm like no, they don't. People bring cookies to the office. Blah, blah, blah, blah. Like no, they don't. He has this thing about like making Stacy at the office think that he went the extra mile for things because she says that he doesn't. Okay, why do you care so much about what she thinks? But then he asked her to make them and that pissed me off. You want to bake cookies? You do them yourself, don't be asking me nothing. You want to bake cookies, you do them yourself, don't be asking me nothing. And she essentially was like I'm not making them and he was like well, I've got to take a shower before game night. And she's like I'm not making them.

Speaker 2:

Why don't you ask your mom?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, why don't you ask your mom to make them? I bet she'd have a dozen by the time that we drive by, or something like that. So that's kind I don't like you.

Speaker 2:

I was like, up to we're past third strike, I was like honey, throw this man away. Like sometimes it's not the same for everyone, but sometimes it's like the first pancake, just throw it out, try again.

Speaker 1:

You're, I feel like the first one usually turns out. It's when you get towards the later ones that they start burning, you know, cause it's too hot, but so anyway.

Speaker 2:

Or cause we roast them so well.

Speaker 1:

Yes, oh, I was talking about like literally making pancakes. I feel like when I get like, sorry, sorry, when you get like into making a few of them, like the pan gets too hot and then it starts burning. Okay, back in the boat. Sorry, I was not following Game night. They go to game night, game night.

Speaker 2:

And Zach, right, zach and I wasn't sure how I was supposed to feel about Zach.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I kind of thought Zach was gonna be the love interest Same. So I was like this guy was supposed to feel about Zach. Okay, I kind of thought Zach was going to be the love interest Same. So I was like this guy who gives him a hard time, that's what Very noticeably gives him a hard time. I was like, oh, maybe this is going to be like. They kind of have a thing and he realizes that she's not happy with him or whatever it may be, and convinces her to leave and be happy with him.

Speaker 2:

Yep.

Speaker 1:

Hey, not where this goes, in case you're curious. Surprise. Nope. So zach and melissa who? Melissa is the worst and she dated nicholas's friend who ended up cheating on her. And now that's automatically nicholas and naomi and Naomi's fault, correct, naturally? Yep, they're like in the room and they're like talking badly about Nicholas whispering, but loud enough where he can hear it.

Speaker 2:

That's my favorite and it just turns into a whole ordeal with like kind of like backhanded smacks against him where they're not like saying it to his face, but like they kind of have backhanded smacks against him where they're not like saying it to his face, but like they kind of have this weird. I'm like. That just makes me so much more annoyed, like, come on, you already said it out loud, speak up yeah and uh.

Speaker 1:

So during game night they're playing clue and naomi accuses nicholas's character as being the criminal. And it's like this moment for her of like empowerment, I guess you could say of like speaking up for herself, because apparently she just doesn't do that.

Speaker 2:

She can't do it in like her own relationships. But she was like I'm going to practice right here In the game.

Speaker 1:

yeah practice right in the game. Yeah, so that's what she gets like her first moment of like. There is naomi, because she feels like she's lost herself in this relationship and being able to speak, and things like that. So then after game night, uh, she realizes that nicholas is not happy in this relationship either and she says, essentially their entire engagement is a game of chicken. Who's gonna call it off? Because if he calls it off then he looks, or if he calls it off then it's his fault, but if she calls it off then it's her fault and she has to pay back his mom for everything and like what an embarrassment that would be. So they're kind of like, but Nicholas would be in the clear, she called it off, and kind of vice versa.

Speaker 1:

And a side note I thought was just comically relatable to a lot of people Is there Instagram posts?

Speaker 2:

It's how they yeah, would emphasize how happy they are and how perfect. And then I had to have some self-reflection time and I was like, oh, you said it oh.

Speaker 1:

I wasn't talking about you specifically, just for the record, but I was like oh my God, because like ooh the paragraphs God.

Speaker 1:

Like so much, like so much. She takes a picture after game night of him in the kitchen making the cookies. He does make the cookies himself. Hashtag marrying my best friend, hashtag marrying my best friend. And it's like game nights with you are the best, or something along those lines. And Zach ends up commenting like LOL, y'all right. And I was like hee, hee, hee, and she deletes the comment. So even up until this point I was like I feel like Zach might be the guy here, and then I looked it up. So then after that, naomi decides screw it, essentially we're going to play, let's play. So Naomi's friend had cut herself some bangs and Nicholas didn't like them. So she thought I'm going to cut myself some bangs and she cuts them about a quarter inch from her scalp.

Speaker 2:

I mean it's a canon event in every woman's life.

Speaker 1:

She well, she like, over corrects them a lot, and then it just ends up being very, very tiny Past baby bangs, we're talking, yes, and they also have dinner with his mom that night, so that's kind of a side note. Uh, she calls his mom and says um, where, where were you saying you got the flowers from? I want to call and make some changes. And the mom's like oh, it's far too late for that dear.

Speaker 2:

It's already set in stone. I've decided what's best for my baby boy's wedding.

Speaker 1:

It's his special day along those lines and, uh, she's like, well, surely they won't mind, yeah, wait, no, what? Well, she's like teetering along the lines of being compliant essentially yes and at the same time undermining her and her choices.

Speaker 2:

I gotta say she does really well.

Speaker 1:

Oh, it was written so well. It was written so well with this mom and then also the caterer, because the mom had changed the cakes. So she also wanted the number for the caterer and she's like, well, I don't know if I have it right now, or something like that. She's like, great, get it to me. Like so well too. Yeah, oh, and she also ends up doing her makeup very extravagantly and like smoky eye just over the top because she knows his mom is going to hate it.

Speaker 1:

And I thought that was pretty comical. I love a moment like that. Yes, so they have family dinner and Nicholas brings his mom flowers and he brings her flowers every week. Yep, of course he does, but he never brings Naomi flowers. And she mentioned something about like, essentially, she wishes he would treat her the way he treats his mom, in a way he buys her flowers, he's always there, like they have dinner, what, like three times a week or something like it's just a little bit extreme. But the whole point was he is constantly worried about his mom and making sure she's okay and fulfilling her needs, while naomi is kind of left in the dust and she brings that up. And he said, well, I thought you didn't like flowers.

Speaker 1:

I thought you said you didn't want flowers.

Speaker 2:

They can't remember a goddamn thing.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, uh, this day exactly four years ago, you were wearing your purple coat and you said you didn't like flowers and I remember because you had a side part that day, like shut up but you can't remember the four things I asked you to get at the grocery store.

Speaker 2:

Damn right I was to get worse, but either kind.

Speaker 1:

Side note my husband's here today.

Speaker 2:

He's at the peanut gallery over there Now. He's listening and he gets to judge, so it's even worse.

Speaker 1:

So they have like this bickering about it and he ends up. One thing about Nicholas is he always opens her door for her and she kind of notes that as like something nice that he does. She also has a whole list of things that he does that are nice. He knows what she gets at restaurants. He always opens her door for us, like little things that he does. So whenever she feels like calling off the wedding she looks back at the nice things that he does. So whenever she feels like calling off the wedding.

Speaker 2:

She looks back at the nice things that he does consistently.

Speaker 1:

You're writing a list, yeah to remind yourself that he's not bad. You made a pros and cons.

Speaker 1:

Yeah sure, my sister but he doesn't open her door that night at dinner because, dear diary, he pissed me off Because she made him upset and so at this dinner I put Naomi gives Nicholas's mom a run for her money. She does. She is hilarious. I want to marry this girl. She like says stuff about they're not going to have kids and oh, maybe Nicholas will take Naomi's last name and all this stuff that literally like almost gives his mom a heart attack. He has to take, he can't take her last name, he has to take our last name Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. My Nikki, my Nikki. And then she starts using that Nikki. I thought that was so funny. Is there anything you want to say about this dinner?

Speaker 2:

Funny though it's, just it's. You know, if anyone's ever had one like that, this is what your monologue, she just sit.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, Girl, and it was so good Because it really felt like she had just finally snapped. It was like fine, I'm gonna be the worst.

Speaker 2:

If I'm really so awful, I guess I'll just be as awful as you act like I am. Exactly oh we're being passive-aggressive. My turn, okay. They never want to play anymore, though. Why don't you start?

Speaker 1:

Oh, my, my, my. It's only fun when you do it. So they go home and they have their first like real fight. This was so funny, which is interesting. Like you've never like spoken your opinion about anything, and I think that's one of their biggest problems in their relationship they don't actually say what they want, slash need.

Speaker 2:

Ever I had shut this book multiple times, talking to my husband at home going. This is why it works for us, because I can just tell you exactly how it is. And these two, oh my god. God forbid you actually tell someone how you feel literally like it's so bad, yep and he was like what do you mean? So I started reading him some parts of it. He was, oh, it's horrible. But then he admitted he was honestly. I was a lot like that before. Like I met you and I'm like we know um.

Speaker 1:

So they have their first real fight and they're like going back and forth and it comes out nicholas wants to live in the woods which like okay, and have a canoe in your maserati, not a maserati, what do you have? A ferrari some sort of sports car stupid overpriced car yeah, sports car. She's driving this hunk of junk with the flat tire. Yep, a saturn, a saturn, justin had a saturn. Uh, when, way back when, yeah, way back when, beverly, in my younger days.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, aw.

Speaker 1:

And he wants a canoe and he's never asked. She's never asked him what he wanted, or something like that. She's like you're the one who bought this house, you're the one who wanted to live here. What do you mean? It's just a. It's a whole thing. Yeah, me, it's just a whole thing, yeah. And he says I'm going to toss this coin and heads will start living the way that I want to live, or tails will stay the same. And he does it.

Speaker 2:

And in her head she's going like heads. You know we stay the same Tails. We end it right now.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and he doesn't tell her what it is. It's like okay, and then she says that's the first ever real fight we've had.

Speaker 2:

And she says that her and Nicholas have become monsters and she doesn't like who they've become and all the bickering and nonstop arguing.

Speaker 1:

But they've never actually had a real fight. Yeah Right, you just passive-aggressively argue all the time Yep, got it Cool. And she's like what do you want to be like in a Nature Valley commercial or something like that?

Speaker 2:

I was dying so funny, or her brawny commercial joke she was making about him.

Speaker 1:

Hilarious Because he's like this suited dentist, drives a sports car and she's like huh. What do you mean? And uh, like huh.

Speaker 2:

What do you mean?

Speaker 1:

And uh, Watching a city boy decide all of a sudden, they want to be a country bumpkin is a very shocking experience, especially if, like you and I, grew up in the woods. It's a shocking experience. And then they have bedazzled jeans and it they do.

Speaker 2:

They buy their truck they can't afford. With their diamond earrings on, they don't know why the salesman is laughing at them.

Speaker 1:

We're not talking about anybody specifically, I don't know. So the next day she gets a flower delivery and it is bouquets and bouquets and bouquets of flowers. And they look it up and the the her co-workers they think it's oleander which is poisonous my mom goes on and on about this plant.

Speaker 2:

She grew up in California, so she warns me about this all the time and I was cackling when this came up. I was like like Mom.

Speaker 1:

So she thinks Nicholas is trying to poison her I mean duh, Because natural reaction. And her and her coworkers like spiral about this. This is so, you and me. This is one of the funniest things because it's so accurate. So they decide that it's poisonous. What are they going to do with it? They have to put gloves and garbage bags all over themselves to be able to do it After they'd already smelled them, After they've already smelled them, Right? Is it in the air? Are they going to be poisoned through the air? And they make one of them I think it's Leon like bag up, essentially, and she lights them on fire which natural reaction. And she sends a picture to him. Glad they remained calm.

Speaker 2:

Glad they didn't overreact the biggest spiral ever or jumped to conclusions.

Speaker 1:

They look up the definition of oleander and what does it mean if somebody gives?

Speaker 1:

it to you Again, you and me as hell, and it means watch your back, or something like that. I was like, oh my gosh, this is so good. And then she sends a picture to Nicholas, like ha ha, nice try. And he's like your natural reaction when your boyfriend sends you flowers is to think that they're poisonous and light them on fire. That's your natural reaction. And she's like yes. And he's like great, so those were jasmine. And even if they were poisonous, you just lit them on fire and the fumes would have been toxic. Got it, Right, Right, Got it. Of course I was like, but at the same time, being a girl, I'm like I thought she was just in her luteal phase.

Speaker 2:

Okay, it kind of made sense. There's a lot going on.

Speaker 1:

I don't know, you're not getting along easily. It could. It could be poison. You don't know, true crime also watch a lot of that facts. And then naomi gets a call from the owners of the junkyard and they're gonna have to close, which they've all kind of seen coming. Um, she has the opportunity to move to a different city if she wants to work at their diner, but the junkyard will be closing and she's very sad about this and she a general theme throughout this is her applying to jobs and constantly being told no man, that sucks.

Speaker 1:

I don't understand how that feels in the slightest it like rips her apart because she feels like a failure and she feels like when she applied to colleges and they all told her no and she was so excited about it, and so it's just like this major letdown that she has.

Speaker 2:

And it's hard. She has a lot of like built up shame between her and her partner.

Speaker 1:

that's unspoken and also like pride, like she doesn't want him to see her in any sort of vulnerable state, correct?

Speaker 2:

I feel you, girl, I feel you Okay. Vulnerability.

Speaker 1:

So she's going gonna be out of a job here soon.

Speaker 2:

It's not like an immediate close, but they're gonna sell everything that they have, and then it'll be done equally as bad as getting like hey it's just a slow death, essentially.

Speaker 1:

Then nicholas comes home and he got rid of his sports car and he has this old jeep that he bought right and she's like she thought it was the neighbors. And then he's like no, that's mine.

Speaker 2:

And she's like in my head I had pictured a very like douchey lifted rubicon with like okay, I wish I could have one. Okay, calm down, cheap community. But, like I just pictured everything, the light bars, everything he could add on there like just showing up, and I'm like oh no I pictured like a red jeep cherokee, that's a little bit older, but not super.

Speaker 1:

Butokee, that's a little bit older, but not super, but, like you know, a little bit older, like early 2000s.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

That's what I pictured the real squared ones. Yeah, yeah. And then he also is wearing like a hat with the little ear flaps, yep, and I'm pretty sure it's plaid.

Speaker 2:

And she's like Even if it's not, that's in my head.

Speaker 1:

It had the red plaid right here. She's like who are you? And he says I have a surprise for you on friday after work. I'll pick you up. He comes and he picks her up and he's like she's like, what are you doing here? He's like I told you I had a surprise for you friday after work and she's like I'm gonna make him think I wasn't listening again sometimes, you know, we just want you to have a little sliver of what it feels like yeah, I'm gonna pretend I wasn't, I wasn't paying attention, and she's like oh, it's frustrating when people don't actively listen to remember what you say, huh

Speaker 1:

really frustrating. So he picks her up and then he's like headed out of town and she's like he's gonna kill me. He's taking. And then he's like headed out of town and she's like he's going to kill me. He's taking me up here, he's going to dump my body, valid. She really thinks this guy's going to kill her for some reason. Yep, and he ends up purchasing this cabin from Leon, who was the person in the very beginning who gave her the ride home, and she loves it. But she can't tell him that she loves it. So she says, uh, what'd she say? Something about the door not being purple? She always wanted her house to have a door that was purple. And he's like okay, other than the color of the door, what do you think? They kind of have like a tip about it. But then she's like looking around and she just loves everything about it. She loves the feel of it. She's like this is a family home and there's a lot of history here and things like that, which I thought was really cute.

Speaker 2:

I was still in camp. We hate nicholas. Oh, I was so I was like he's love bombing, don't fall for it.

Speaker 1:

I more so thought that he knew that she would love it.

Speaker 1:

So this was like because he does talk about like this house is going to save them, and that's what he tells Leon, which you find out later but he had very high hopes for what this house could be and to me, like he knew that she was going to love it. He knew those little things that she's saying and her inner dialogue about, like the window and looking out on it, or the nutcrackers on the mantel and things like that. So I feel like it was like to start of like he does know her, he knows what she'll like and he bought the cabin knowing that she would love it, but then she can't tell him that, so she makes up some stuff about it. Then she decides that she's gonna be sleeping in a different room because their relationship is just in shambles at this point and I guess they've been sleeping in a different room, because their relationship is just in shambles at this point and I guess they'd been sleeping in separate rooms for some time one of them had been sleeping on the couch.

Speaker 2:

Oh, in their previous house they couldn't drag the mattress into the.

Speaker 1:

I don't know, and uh, so they have an argument and he kind of says you know, you made me give up my dream job and to move to a different city. And this was something that I says you know, you made me give up my dream job and just to move to a different city and this was something that I always wanted, and you made me give that up for your job at the junkyard. And she's like well, my job is just as important, which?

Speaker 2:

valid.

Speaker 1:

My job isn't really my job anymore, but you don't need to know that, because that's neither here nor there.

Speaker 2:

Yes, you got a haunted cabin.

Speaker 1:

Because she's like well, what if I don't want to stay here? And he's like, then you can call the movers on Monday and you can leave then, like it's too damn bad. They start I love them actually fighting and I know how that sounds, but I I feel like it's like they're really starting to like your real emotions are coming there comes a point when two chronic people pleasers finally feel like, well, I've got nothing to fucking lose, so I'm just gonna tell you how I really feel.

Speaker 2:

Yes, and then all of a sudden you're like, wow, that actually felt really good. Very cathartic, yes yeah.

Speaker 1:

So he says if you decide to leave, then leave. But I gave this up for you, so you're gonna give this house a chance and if you still decide that you want to leave, then leave. But like, give it a shot okay tell me what to do.

Speaker 2:

All right, sat, I know, I know we say this. If either one of our husbands tried that, shit would be like why don't you leave? How about that? Yeah, he's talking a lot of bullshit. You should come over. The audacity is strong tonight, yeah.

Speaker 1:

They're fighting again and I love this part. And he's like come on, let's go now, because they don't have any food. So now he's like yelling at her and he's like let's go. And then he's like what the fuck do you want for dinner? She's like I want fucking pizza. He's like great, I have a fucking coupon for a beignet nose or whatever. And she's like great, I fucking love beignet nose. I feel like every couple has been there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's so funny, were you just mad, or like the after you've been fighting and you went in other rooms for a minute. And then you're like do you want this or that? You know the. Just testing the water or the worst part is that did you feed the dogs?

Speaker 1:

I don't know what you're referring to. Um, so then the movers come to help them bring all their stuff into the house. Movers, these people are rich rich, yes, I know For real and she is very noticeably checking them out. And he's like can you maybe not? Like come on, and she's like, well, I'm not getting any from you. And he's like, well, sorry, I actually need to feel wanted in order to do that. So, hey, there you go. And it's very like kind of a vulnerable moment for him to say it to her. I was still hating him, but I don't know. Because then I'm like, okay, he's trying, he's very clearly trying, she's just not having it. She's not having it. True, she's just not having it. She's not having it.

Speaker 1:

Sure, she was very closed off. She was very closed off and very like even in her inner dialogue she was open to it. But then would be like, well, I can't let him know that, and they talk a lot about like they're on a battlefield and they're on different ends and like now her armor's up and things like that. And then he says you stopped seeing me and you live in your head, essentially, and I'm not allowed in there. And I want you to listen and I want you to care how I feel and I want you to want me.

Speaker 1:

Basically, when he was droning, I need you to need me. And he wants her to give a shit about his feelings. And she's like she does not. There's no give or take here with her. She is like stone wall. Well, that's your problem. So sucks to be you. Yes, it does like knock at her door a little bit, though, because then she kind of has this moment of maybe I should be trying to give him a chance and like nah, I actually don't think I'll be doing that. Yep, so then they have dinner with his parents at the steakhouse. Oh, this is all very comedic. I'm going to pull this up actually.

Speaker 2:

Oh, this is the one that she drives herself to right.

Speaker 1:

Yes, and she makes it a point she drives her new car.

Speaker 1:

New to her yes, she makes it a point to take too long so that way she can say, well, I'll just meet you guys there. And he's like fine, whatever, she also dresses in a horrible dress to her. Oh, there is a moment here where she's like, well, I can't find anything to wear. And he's like wear pajamas if you want to, I don't care. And then he said, go ahead, wear your pajamas to dinner.

Speaker 1:

Naomi, you think that would bother me. You can go out dressed like Santa Claus, and I wouldn't care. And she's like, why wouldn't you care? And he says because I think you're beautiful no matter what, and like that's a general theme of like him constantly telling her that she's beautiful and he's always sees her as she's beautiful, and things like that. But she doesn't care and she Ends up stopping on the way there to trade cars with Leon. So her Saturn is now Leon's and she has his piece together by a cloth car, but it's a stick shift and she doesn't know how to drive a stick shift. Well, well, well, this would be me and my planning.

Speaker 2:

I actually really related to this whole chapter honestly, yeah, I feel like this would be something that I would get to experience, as in, you would call me at said intersection I would be crying. So, uh, where are you? Like it's fine if you're busy, but like I kind kinda need you to like come by.

Speaker 1:

So she can't drive six shift, but she's trying to get to this steakhouse so that way she can pull up in it and her awful outfit that she's pieced together with her awful bangs, and be like an embarrassment for his parents, because she's really trying to push her boundaries as far as she can for him to cut it off and she breaks down in an intersection. Well, she doesn't break down, she stalls, she stalls out, honestly been there.

Speaker 2:

You know when you're coming home from Sandy and you're at that hill. I stalled there one time and, oh my God, my passenger at least just kept pulling my e-brake because I just kept rolling back.

Speaker 1:

There was a line of people behind me. Tears, oh my god, I still nope, never again so she stalls out and she flees the scene of the crime valid absolutely valid, she stayed. I would panic, I would be in tears and I would probably get out of the car and hide, honestly, like I cannot imagine myself in that situation. I would never put myself in that situation. When a doubt just jumped the clutch, it fits that off a little bit, don't know?

Speaker 2:

what that means. But okay, that's okay For our next book bite.

Speaker 1:

Suzy teaches Kylie how to drive a stick. No, justin tried. I ran into the porches at the old house. Yeah, so I tried in the car in reverse because I couldn't figure out how to put it in first.

Speaker 2:

So you're good, I mean.

Speaker 1:

So you know, Very relatable Can't drive a six shift stalls. We didn't have a Kmart behind either.

Speaker 1:

She goes into the ditch and up the other side and goes into the Kmart parking lot and she calls or she texts, nicholas, help. And he's like where are you? And then he calls her and she's like, um, well, you know this happened. And he's like he's already out of the restaurant and he's like coming to her and she sees him and he looks very worried and he's like talking to the police officer about it, because now it's a whole thing and she knows she's going to jail.

Speaker 1:

She's about to get arrested, she's going to jail and he grabs her purse for her and says I left my purse. They're gonna know it was me. Oh, but then she also thinks Leon's gonna get in trouble because she hasn't had a chance to change the title on the car Me spiraling, yes, and he ends up being like come on. And she's like, am I going to jail? He's like, no, you're not going to jail, they're going to tow whatever this is back to our house and he tells her that he knows that she's not a mechanic, he knows that she takes it to the mechanic down the street Because he took the mechanic's wisdom teeth.

Speaker 1:

Yes, and the first thing he said when he came back up was don't tell Naomi's boyfriend that she gets her car fixed, or something like that. And they also have a moment of he. I think this is where he says it. Yeah, I kind of always thought we'd be partners in crime when it comes to his parents, which was very sad because they are awful and he understands that his mom is awful, Would it?

Speaker 2:

kill him to let on a little. That he's aware, Would it? You know, a little self-awareness?

Speaker 1:

Yes, in essence he feels very alone in it and she's like, well, not my problem. Again she's cut off.

Speaker 2:

You know you can give and give and give. Yes, you take so much, and then and I think that's how she feels.

Speaker 1:

But then, like I don't think that she's ever known, that nicholas feels the way that he does about his parents and like they are a lot, but then he also has this he has to take care of everybody thing. And it's the same thing with Naomi like he feels like he has to take care of her. He feels like he has to take care of his parents, specifically his mom, but it drives him crazy too, but he doesn't know how to stand up to her and that's a terrible place for a young man to be in.

Speaker 1:

Yes, so then they go back to the house. They still haven't went grocery shopping don't know how long they've lived here and they make this horrible, awful dinner Barfuccini, yeah, and it's horrible, but they have like this camaraderie and like joking around, silly funny, ha ha. They eat it together and they say we should have this every year as like a funny thing.

Speaker 2:

You know, so we're kind of slowly, like slowly creamer and cinnamon and spaghetti y'all. Yeah, it was disturbing, yeah it was gross and uh.

Speaker 1:

So we have like a little on an armor for both of them.

Speaker 1:

I don't think I think her guard is up, but I really don't think his is. I think if they, if she was to ask him anything, he would tell her how he feels correct. With that being said, he does use his parents as kind of like a not like a shield, but like maybe a little mesh netting around him, because then the next day he's like I'm gonna go have dinner with my parents and she's like are you serious? Like okay, and he says that she doesn't have to go, but he has to go and I think a part of it is he.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he won't admit to her.

Speaker 1:

Tell her that he feels obligated or maybe he doesn't even realize it yet sometimes that happens like you're not like aware of what's happening you're like oh my god, I'm doing everything out of guilt and bribery. Yes, yeah, very much so. Um, and she's like oh, you, you'd rather go have dinner with your parents than me. And he's like and he says essentially, don't make me choose, because I can't, like, I hate that line.

Speaker 2:

I'm like you, you.

Speaker 1:

But right, okay. So that really sends Naomi a little bit over the edge, because I think to her she thought that they were kind of getting somewhere, like maybe she should be giving him a better chance, like maybe she should be opening up more, and then that really triggered no more, no more, ting, ting, ting. She was very triggered. So they start doing this tit for tad fighting and it starts with they're at a restaurant and she tells the waiter that it's his birthday and so they do like a pirate birthday song, and then he snaps a photo of her sleeping on the couch and she has drool and he posted that was so mean, that was so mean, he posted to his instagram and it's like one of those cheesy, like a woman crush. Wednesday yeah, exactly. And then she finds this stray dog that she thinks is a stray, turns out it's not a stray, but brings him home and she also changes his toothpaste to charcoal toothpaste. And dental hygiene is not a joke, I don't believe in it doesn't believe in it.

Speaker 1:

Uh, he hides all her shoes from her and she has to go out to brunch in her slippers. She ends up super gluing his shoelaces together so he can't untie them, and he then ends up stapling all her underwear to the ceiling in her bedroom.

Speaker 2:

That was a little fucked up Because he also, like he, stabbed holes in them all too Like he really did.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, she did have to, yeah.

Speaker 2:

But then he dared to freak out because he got natural consequences. Like again, I side with her. Why are you putting your phone on the floor? I'm a new charger. I have rich parents and I have a big boy job and I can get my own new charger, but I just won't.

Speaker 1:

I'll let you have it, it's fine. So with the dog specifically, he does kind of comfort her and he's the one who ends up returning the dog, because it is somebody's dog. She was very attached to it. Honestly, I get it. Oh yeah, I would be in tears.

Speaker 2:

I'd be like well, if you love it so much, why did I find it on the side of the road? Huh agreed.

Speaker 1:

So they have a moment where she's like maybe we should get a dog and he's like I don't really feel like now's the time we should be getting a dog, because they both agree.

Speaker 2:

Their relationship is in shambles it's like when people break up or they're about to break up, they're like, let's have a baby and you're like, oh no.

Speaker 1:

Let's get a dog. No, no, yeah, start with a fish, get a fish, baby steps, get a plant together and then after that. Then she tries the trick of sticking his hand in warm water so he'll pee his pants. But the bull falls on the floor and it cracks his phone and he's pissed about this. He puts his phone on the floor because his charger cord isn't long enough and she's like get a charger cord that's long enough. Then, like boohoo, so sad, and he's livid and he's like this is too much, naomi, like you've crossed the line here, like this is just a lot and this, so they have this big and it's like a literal knockout, drag out fight yeah like WWE wrestling each other, which was really funny he goes to work and then he comes home and he's pissed and he's like give me your phone.

Speaker 1:

And she's like no, why do you want my phone, which she doesn't want him to see her phone? Because she has all the rejection emails and things like that from jobs which she's very embarrassed about. And he's like my mom called the office today 30 times about the stupidest things and I kept getting interrupted and blah, blah, blah, and she was like well, maybe I should start calling your office then, maybe then I'll get the attention that you give her.

Speaker 2:

He's like this isn't funny I liked her mental note too, how she was like so he's trying to blame me for the fact that he has no boundaries with his mother. Yes, wait a second, like let's take a look at what's. Who are you really mad at?

Speaker 1:

yeah and oh, I'm so sorry. Before he goes to work, she says something about common sense and he says if I used common sense, I never would have proposed.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Oof, sad Oof, and then he goes outside and he runs over her little mini tree in the front of the house. I would have left him right then and there.

Speaker 2:

And it's very maliciously and it's very maliciously unalive my plan to be in front of me. Bye, yeah.

Speaker 1:

It was a lot and it was really hard. And she's like you knew I cared about that, like that's different. I didn't mean to break your phone. You went out of your way, you, to kill my little tree jason. And then. So then he comes home from work and he's pissed because his mom called the office all day. So then they have this fight about the phone and she won't give her him her phone, and he's like what's on your phone? He have this fight about the phone and she won't give him her phone and he's like what's on your phone? He's very suspicious about her phone. What's on your phone you don't want me to see. And she's like nothing in your business, it's my private property. And he goes to grab her phone because it goes off on the mantle and she jumps on his back and he like, pushes him into a wall and then they fall on the floor and then they're like and he gets a little excited, the play fighting becomes a little flirty fighting for him.

Speaker 1:

He gets a little excited and she's like are you serious right now? He's like you're on top of me and you're wiggling all over the place. What do you?

Speaker 2:

expect from me, and I think that was a little bit like she's like oh, he does still like me.

Speaker 1:

Yes, and then when she like touches his face and she's like you feel alive and all this stuff, because they've been just like shells of people to each other. So even though they're fighting a lot, they're finally like emotionally there in a way and, um, she says something about like giving into it and he says like I will if you, if you um accept like your half and she's like my half of what he's like your half of where things went wrong between us excuse me, we're perfect, sorry my part right and she's like, no, I'm not doing that?

Speaker 2:

yeah. How about you and your mom go have a discussion?

Speaker 1:

yeah and so they get into a fight about that because, of course, and. But he's like and I agree, I wholeheartedly agree with him. He's not the only one in the wrong, they are totally, 100% both in the wrong. They've totally blocked each other out. They don't want to hear what the other has to say and they're just on the defense all of the time. So naomi has this count in her head of how much she loves him and right now, I only love him 18. Right now it's 18 I'm pretty sure it was at 20 at the beginning of the book but right now it's 18. And she tells him I only love you 18. And he's like so you don't love me. And she's like like, no, I do. And he's like no, you don't Like, you can't love somebody 18%. And then he said, pretty sure, he says like well, I only like you 18% right now, or something like that. Like, okay, at least I'm likable.

Speaker 2:

Nicholas, I promise I warm up to him okay, I promise.

Speaker 1:

So then the next day he comes home and he bought a canoe, because in their argument about moving in the woods he's like maybe I want to get a canoe and she says, get a canoe then. So he does when it's snowing yes, it is also winter, yep and so he brings the canoe out and he's trying to fish in their pond that they have with his one oar. With his one oar, because why would you buy two of them?

Speaker 2:

yeah, I want to waste. I can just do one side and then the other if I didn't get two oars called that.

Speaker 1:

He said yeah, um, but he loses his oar in the and she's watching all this happen, which is hilarious. Uh, he loses his oar. It starts floating away from him. He doesn't really know what he's going to do. He's in the middle of this lake, it's November and it's very cold outside. Keep in mind, it starts snowing a few days later, so it's freezing outside, and so he has to jump into the lake or the pond or whatever, and swim to shore Like a to the lake or the pond or whatever, and swim to shore like a silly, silly goose, and she is laughing hysterically.

Speaker 2:

I was, I valid, yep, I would expect someone to laugh at me.

Speaker 1:

I would laugh at you, yeah um and we're friends, like that's just funny no matter the situation that's funny. That's comedy right there um and so then he's like, oh, you think it's funny. And they start like play fighting, and he like dips her hair in the water and she's like, no, don't do that you know which like.

Speaker 2:

here's a like itty bitty that you can be like picked up and like almost lost in the lake.

Speaker 1:

That's funny, I was really trying to From this Amazon over here. I'm like I was trying to figure out the logistics of it and I'm like is she wrapped around his waist and then he dips her in the lake?

Speaker 2:

I don't know, her hair goes in the lake Picked her up knees, you know, and dipping I would fall. Yes, yeah.

Speaker 1:

No, but so they have this very playful fighting in the water and then she runs inside because she's gonna get in the shower before him, because she knows that he's gonna get in the shower, but she needs to get in there first. Piss him off, yep, and he gets into the shower with her. And it's very unexpected and this, this was so comedic. They've been together for a while, not like years. They've been together for like what? A year and a half, I think.

Speaker 2:

So think so, they got engaged very quickly.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but it's so funny. She's like trying to like cover herself with her arms. She's pulling others, just kind of comedic in all reality. She's like don't look at me. And he's like, yeah, okay, and nothing happens. She gets out of the shower. It is what it is.

Speaker 1:

Yep, it's very like I don't know, like the closeness of them, like realizing that they're attracted to each other, even if they are having a hard time, but like they could just give in. But they don't, yep, nothing. And then after that she is like in the office and she loves the office window that's in there, but his desk is pushed up against it, so it starts snowing and she wants to see the snow through that window because that's what she pictured, like what's wrong. And she's like, well, this is what I always pictured. And he's like, okay, clock that. And so then after that, nicholas this was so funny Nicholas has this office secret Santa and he got Stacey, who she can't stand because he talks about her a lot about, like I want Stacey to think I went the extra mile and bringing cookies in and stuff like that. And so he's really trying to push her buttons here and he's like I got Stacey for secret Santa. What do you think I should get her? She's like, I don't know, gift card or something.

Speaker 2:

No, I want it to be personal.

Speaker 1:

I want it to be personal. What about some what lotion do you wear? Maybe I'll get her some of that that smells good.

Speaker 2:

That would be Sims fighting words Anything, the way I would have retorted so fast like, like, why don't you just get her your last names?

Speaker 1:

it's probably what she wants the most I'm glad we're all just keeping our level head here, glad we didn't overreact. Um, and then he's like maybe some jewelry? Yeah, how about like diamonds? She's like, she's like diamonds. And it's this whole scene, with him just really pushing and pushing her. And then she's like I swear, if you say one more thing about her, I am going to go down there and do. And he's like do what, do what? And then he gets into her face and it's this whole thing and they end up kissing finally something, anything, and then waiting a long time for this guys they've just been fighting, uh, and then he tells her next thing, but that's not our thing, okay he ends up telling her that there is no secret santa.

Speaker 1:

She's like what do you mean? There's no secret santa. And he's like I, I just wanted to see if I could get under your skin, if you cared essentially, if I could make you jealous, make you jealous, see if there's anything left here, or if I should just call this essentially. And she's very like, kind of offended by it, and so she leaves. So the next day she goes into Nicholas's room and is like snooping. She goes through his drawers and he has like little mementos throughout their relationship, one of them being like this bracelet out of a straw wrapper that she made. And so she's like, hmm, he does care about me. So there's just like lots of cutesy things in his room to remind her that he does, he does care about me. So there's just like lots of cutesy things in his room to remind her that he does care. And so then she goes downstairs and Nick is very sick. He is asleep on the couch, he's down with a man cold.

Speaker 2:

Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1:

And it's snowing outside, and every time it snows Nick goes to his mom's house before work. Gotta shovel mommy's driveway driveway. Wouldn't want her to hire a professional and, uh, she decides I'm gonna do it, you're not gonna make him do it and you're gonna call him and it's gonna be a whole thing and he's gonna feel like he let you down. So I'm gonna put on his overalls and his stupid hat and I'm gonna go over there and shovel the driveway which also she knows nothing, would disappoint mommy more exactly and it's really funny how she's like dressed like nick and the mom totally thinks it's him and she's like, oh, where's nicholas, is he okay?

Speaker 2:

and she's like, yep, he's fine, because she's like I'm not gonna tell her that he's, because then she'll be over there with chicken soup and having to take care of him. Probably move in for the week.

Speaker 1:

Yes, so she finishes shoveling the driveway and then she stops on the way home and picks up food for him and medication and she knew she got to try his hot chocolate.

Speaker 2:

And then she knew that she was giving him the good stuff and her the shittier stuff.

Speaker 1:

Yes, chocolate. And then she knew that she was giving him the good stuff and her the shittier stuff. She and I think she plays this so well I'm like, thanks, gotta get back to it. You know, correct, um. And the mom is just kind of like, um, okay, so she gets home and, um, she gives nicholas all the stuff and she realizes that she's been a little bit unfair to him because this little action of her going to the store and getting him medicine and things like that, he, she can see that he really appreciates. And then she's like oh, that's so sad that that little thing like made him so happy, like she kind of does an inner reflection of I probably haven't been the nicest. I think they both are. And then she's like I'm going to go take a shower, are you good, until I am out.

Speaker 1:

And when she gets out of the shower, he has rearranged the office that day and he has put two desks in there and their face together, and then he put a couch or they. He said I think we should. Has rearranged the office that day and he has put two desks in there and they're faced together and then he put a couch or they. He said I think we should put a couch here so you can watch the snowfall from the window, and it's a very heartfelt I may have.

Speaker 1:

After that she's like in the kitchen doing something and he brings her a flower and he puts it in her favorite glass and fills it with water and puts it on the table for her and it was just like some flower that was growing in the barn but he had to, like get on the ladder to get it and he thought that she would like it. It's a very sweet thing. And then after that we get to Thanksgiving and Nicholas makes a centerpiece every year for Thanksgiving, so he has to go to the craft shop before they go to the mom's house so that way he can get stuff for it Of course he waits till Thanksgiving Day itself on the way to dinner.

Speaker 2:

Yep, that is so something my husband would do.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so she thought he was just gonna like go to Walmart or something. But he goes to Nay nay, the very specific craft shop where she had applied for a job and really wanted it. She didn't get a call back.

Speaker 2:

So she's like no, well, I got no expensive, no, we don't need it.

Speaker 1:

Well then she starts spiraling about like they're going to think I'm a weirdo because I applied here, and then now they're going to know it's me on the cameras and I'm just like stalking the place and da, da, da, da, solid Yep, hey, oh no, I would think the same thing. I can actually never show my face here again.

Speaker 2:

Yep, like my purse is a backpack. That's just what I prefer. Every time I walk into a store with a backpack I'm like they think I'm going to shoplift everything in here.

Speaker 1:

I just know it. If I leave without anything, they think I shoplift. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I walk in. Oh, I can't even tell you how much money I've wasted on guilt small purchases because my anxiety just, I can't just walk out of here.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, oh, I'm coming in for this soda that I'm not going to drink and I'm probably just going to take home, yeah, yeah. But at the craft shop she finds out that Melissa from her last job was just hired there. This lady, she's the worst. And she's like oh, I heard that you applied. Um, wouldn't that be so cool if we?

Speaker 2:

worked together again. I love it when a mean girl feels high and mighty. I'm like, yeah, keep climbing, keep climbing.

Speaker 1:

And, um, she says something about like, oh, since you're not doing anything, and Nicholas is like, oh well, maybe we've been busy just having a bunch of sex. How about that? Like I thought it was so funny. And he really like sticks up for Naomi. He goes full, mean girl, and I'm like, okay, okay, he does it so well too. Also, Naomi tells Melissa it's not her fault that Greg, I think, was the guy's name cheated on her.

Speaker 2:

Look here bitch.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's not my fault, because Greg, I think, was the guy's name. Yep, look here, bitch. Yeah, that's not my fault, because Melissa always insinuates that.

Speaker 2:

And they were together for like 12 seconds.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so calm down, it's a whole thing, and so Nicholas is quite the mean girl back to her and then they kind of they really like have a laugh about it in the car and he she says something about like like oh, we make a great team, and he's like that's always what I wanted us to be and I'm like so thanksgiving do you have notes about thanksgiving, um?

Speaker 2:

let's see naomi annihilates her mother-in-law. Deborah is definitely a middle-aged mean girl. Yes, let's see the fake niceness. Oh, I love that they brought up the daughter. I love that they brought up Nicholas has a sister that's shunned, essentially Yep, but she doesn't call.

Speaker 1:

Why would she call up? Nicholas has a sister that's shunned, essentially Yep, but she doesn't call. Why would she call?

Speaker 2:

Her father has done everything. Meanwhile, the herald in question is like the classic silent man that doesn't say anything, literally. And this witch has him on a special diet on Thanksgiving. Yes, let the man live. He's like it's awful. Yep, Give me cake no seasoning. Yes, let the man live. He's like it's awful. Yep, give me cake no seasoning.

Speaker 1:

Yes, ugh. Well, he can't have it. Susie, that's true, it will make him sick. Might bring joy, yeah that's true.

Speaker 2:

She needs him to last as long as possible too, Yep.

Speaker 1:

She waiting until he dies. Um so, naomi really plays nice. And he's like wow, I love this table. And she's like is it this vibe? And she's like that's totally what I was going for.

Speaker 2:

This turkey is delicious. Why don't you season it with no?

Speaker 1:

like damn well she didn't cook the damn turkey and she goes. She says about her cranberry sauce this is much better than my mom's. My mom can never make cranberry sauce right, because she knows that his mom is going to love anything that she does better than her mom, because she's very jealous that Nick is going to have a mother-in-law now weird and um. So she's really really trying. And then cake comes out and they're so excited and she made it and it's a home recipe or it's a family recipe and she'll give it to naomi when they have kids and she's like.

Speaker 2:

Well, until then I'll just have to, you know, love eating it so and she tries to like not let her have any either, like she's like pulling the food away from her, telling her that she, yes so she gives it to nicholas and well, the dad can't have it because he's like two seconds from passing away apparently, and uh, he's like give me some cake, so funny, um.

Speaker 1:

But she's like oh honey, that's how she talks. Oh honey, you can't have any. And she's like oh honey, that's how she talks. Oh honey, you can't have any. And she's like why not? Why can't?

Speaker 2:

I have any. They think that if their voice just goes up an octave and they finish it with words, like you know, I'm just saying, or I'm just kidding.

Speaker 1:

I'm just looking out for you. Yeah, that's what she says. I'm saying this with love, yeah, and you're like like points it out of, like well, you know you're midsection, you've got to be careful of that before the wedding and I'm just looking out for you and you can't just be eating sweets and treats and stuff like that. Trust me, girl, I know.

Speaker 2:

I was 100 pounds when I got married.

Speaker 1:

Yes, soaking wet, yeah. And then she spills that she had. The seamstress take Naomi's dress into a size 2. The seamstress take Naomi's dress into a size two. She's like I'm not a size two, why would you do that?

Speaker 2:

And then. So then, nicholas, well, you just need to buckle down and just try harder, oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

So Nicholas is like just give her the cake. Mom Like, and then so then the mom says that she moved her to a size two and that really pisses him off and he's like, why would you do that?

Speaker 2:

Like she moved her to a size two and that really pisses him off and he's like why would you do that? Like that's not her body, she's not you and you can't force it to be that way, but she's supposed to be me, because you're supposed to be with me.

Speaker 1:

It's like oh, whoops, there it is so they both get really riled up and he's like we're leaving and she's like, well, we don't have to ruin dinner over it just because of your father so like this woman will do anything but take the fall for a damn thing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah and uh, so they do leave, and, oh also, nicholas's mom thinks that he's a virgin, which naomi finds pretty hilarious, and uh. So then they're like out at the car and he's like I'm so sorry about her, and they end up like having this little makeout session outside, and then the mom walks out and she thinks that's pretty comedic and, um, during this he's like this is how I always thought we should be of, like you know, giving them a run for their money, and like us, us teaming up against them, not the other way around. Why didn't you fucking say so? Say something sooner, bruh, because well, she can also see, when they first get there, that he shuts down around his mom, like he literally cannot bring himself to stand up to her, dissociates out of the Very much so. And then, which then causes Naomi to like fight back in a way, but not on the same team. You've triggered my fight, or?

Speaker 1:

flight response and I'm like, I'm a fightless bird, so it's a really nice moment for them actually.

Speaker 2:

Yes, very.

Speaker 1:

They get to connect. We're on the same team here, yep. So then when they get home, she's like I have something to show you. Some people never figure that out. And then she shows him all of the jobs that she's applied for. She keeps a very detailed list of everything when she applied, if she heard back, if she's hopeful about it, things like that. And uh, also tells him about the college applications and he's like I am so sorry because he said before about her not going to college, not knowing that she tried but she was rejected for it. And then, uh, he's like okay, I want to show you something. And he brings her into the office and he shows her, uh, what he spends all his time on the computer doing, and it is playing, playing this game called Nightjar. He's a secret nerd. You know, ladies, his words, his words for the record. And he plays this fantasy game. What?

Speaker 2:

were you gonna say I was picturing a world of Warcraft and stuff. But what I was gonna say was ladies, marry the nerd.

Speaker 1:

Okay, that's what I was gonna say.

Speaker 2:

Marry the nerd. Okay, just do it from two very happily married women.

Speaker 1:

You get to read your books. They game, there's no fight about it. They love parallel play.

Speaker 2:

You can just yep, it's great.

Speaker 1:

Yep, their friends are nice Yep.

Speaker 2:

They can't be off cheating and making bad decisions if they're just stuck trying to get a high score.

Speaker 1:

Okay, yeah, they'll be fine you gotta hear about it, but it is what it is. Yeah, yeah, um, they get unsolicited book reviews. They have to hear about the new drop that's coming out and you don't understand, because this is have you seen the new map for this? Oh my god, yep but the skins only drop once a week and you have to get in there before the drop is done.

Speaker 2:

Oh, you get the right game pass. Oh no, or else you can never get it again.

Speaker 1:

You don't understand. Yep, that's true, we don't. You have to get in the store every day. Yeah, I've played Animal Crossing, pal, I know. Hey, you think I don't play Sims. Yeah, you want to talk about games Anyway. Hey, you think I don't play Sims? Yeah, you want to talk about games. Anyway, back in the boat. So he plays this game and he's really like passionate about it, which I think we relate to, honestly. Yeah, and she entertains him with it and she's like oh well, tell me about this and that. And he like lights up, they get so excited though, it's so cute. And she's like can I play? And he's like you want to play?

Speaker 2:

I feel like their world is just like.

Speaker 1:

Okay, okay, and she's like, she's like, but I want to have purple hair and this and that. And he's like, okay, okay, not a problem, yeah. And then she gets within like the first hour or so of playing, she gets the trident and it's this really rare thing that you can get in the game. And so he like wants to play on her account, because he wants to play God, as she put it and run around with this trident. So it's a really cute, cute, cute thing. And then also his mom has a column called Dear Debra in the local newspaper, because of course she does Literally, and he writes to Debra and he tells her all about his overbearing mom and she gives advice, like you know, just let her know Anonymous letters.

Speaker 2:

And she gives him advice in a way of responding, responding in a way she never would never ever.

Speaker 1:

Just tell her she's overstepping, she'll understand. Yep, right, of course, and that was hilarious and she's like I can't believe you kept this from me, like this is so funny. So the next day, deborah shows up at their house. Because of this was really spent 35 minutes, since I've heard from you. This was really silly, goofy, yes, um, and I really liked it because I felt like this was very real, of like the moods that you can get in with your partner. Yes, you can turn into the weirdest people. Yes, and it's all free game. Hey, do I turn into lord voldemort about 11 o'clock at nine, if I haven't slept, perhaps I do. Okay, and I think it's hilarious, um, but so they're like hiding from the mom in the upstairs window and she's like oh sorry, nicholas isn't here right now. Leave a message after the beep. And just like silly silliness and she's like what are you doing?

Speaker 2:

And this authoritarian just can't believe that someone would just not. And she's kind of subtle, but at the same time she's like that southern lady or like midwest, like no, you're gonna do what I said, because that's my son. You're like, you're almost 30 year old.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, your adult son. Oh, oh, it's so I demand to see my son, I'm like I'll bet you do. Literally that's what she says. I demand to see him. He's not here right now and then he gets in on it of like he got eaten by a monster and the description of him, like laying there, cackling while she's like I'm your dog, I'm your guard dog so I'm gonna sit here and bark until she goes away it's so funny something kylie would do for me though I just thought that whole thing was really funny of like them laughing about it and being silly and her getting so upset when it was probably something super not serious.

Speaker 1:

Yeah Well, the night before they walked out of her house.

Speaker 2:

Oh right, sorry, I forgot, this did happen.

Speaker 1:

So I just thought that was so funny, had happened. Um, so I just thought that was so funny. And so again, it's a moment of them kind of like coming together and realizing maybe they like each other, maybe this is, this is salvageable, essentially, and you get his dynamic too, but you get more so, like her inner dialogue and at this point she's just kind of unsure. If he wants to be with her, still, like, is this enough for him? Or, you know, she thinks that he doesn't want to be with her either, so maybe it's not enough.

Speaker 1:

Um, and so the next day they have like a picnic on the kitchen floor because he gets home and he's like come make dinner with me and it's a very cute, like just kind of soft moment. And they dance in the kitchen and she's like I never thought we'd be the couple that dances in the kitchen, but here we are. And so they have a picnic on the floor and he like falls asleep on the floor and she's like sitting there with her ring and she's always hated her ring. But then she realizes that it is beautiful and why he picked it for her and it's gonna break her heart if she has to give it back or something along those lines about like giving it back. So then it's still like damn, you don't know, like really well, you can obviously guess where this goes, but like you know in her mind, like they're not solid yet, I'm like come on like if you're below the 60 days, ma'am yeah, ma'am, yeah, this is what december.

Speaker 1:

They're getting married in january. Yeah, and they haven't sent invitations yet. That's a that's a running theme is them sending the invitations? But they couldn't agree on the picture and they both hated that day that they did their engagement photos.

Speaker 2:

I can't believe that it was even a debate about the picture, but you'd be surprised how much people like yeah also his mom made the invitations because of course she did and uh, didn't even put her middle name on it yeah, and also that on thanksgiving, that was one of the things that they had you need to come over. Just me and you, mother, son, gonna do and we'll do them like ew and she said we're busy that day.

Speaker 1:

She's like busy doing what? Going out on the canoe? A canoe, you don't have a canoe. Yeah, that's my favorite oh my god lady.

Speaker 1:

Um. So after that then she starts, she makes a list in her phone of keep doing these things, even if he doesn't reciprocate right away in the way that you think, because she wants to start being nicer to him, in essence, and one of the things she does is she leaves him notes in his lunchbox and it's very cute and I just loved this and it's so simple of like I really like your music taste, or I like that you do this, or I like you know, whatever it may be, and it makes his world. He just like eats it up. He's a sentimental little boy, he's a sentimental guy, so also he ends up keeping all of these notes in his drawer.

Speaker 2:

Also for the record, it was on Thanksgiving that the tables turned, and I was then team Nicholas Like oh okay, all right.

Speaker 1:

Yes, pop off, team. Once he stood up to his mom Yep, yep. Oh okay, all right. Once pop on he stood up to his mom, yep, yep. Interesting, um, and also another thing she does is she sends him a bouquet of flowers. That is a herb or a flower in the night jar game game. That gives you like an energy boost, okay, so she sends him adhd.

Speaker 2:

Completely forgot this. Even well, I thought it was so cute.

Speaker 1:

I'm just it was so like small and sentimental, of like she knew that was in the game and then so it like meant even more like she wasn't just sending flowers, she was sending like this little cute. You know, she really thought about it.

Speaker 2:

It's kind of the point it's like if someone got us, if I actually liked my birth flower, if someone like went out their way to bring me that yes oh, exactly, not. Just here's the orange and blue and green daisies that are like no, sorry, I'm such a bitch. What have I done from the grocery store? Did you see the TikToks about that? The girls educated guys Like, okay, this is equivalent to this kind of car, this is equivalent to this. I'll have to send it to you.

Speaker 1:

It's really funny. This was a bad day for you to go. Sorry, I tease.

Speaker 2:

Next I'll start harping on like God, who dates and marries someone they went to high school with, like who the hell knows that I don't know.

Speaker 1:

We didn't date until after high school, so it's fine. Yeah, for the record Night of graduation, though, is when we started dating.

Speaker 2:

Still counts. It's different.

Speaker 1:

He also writes her a note and puts it under her pillow, which is like so cute.

Speaker 2:

And he tells her, like, go upstairs and look under your pillow. I cracked up at the way they described her running up the stairs. Oh yeah, throws every pillow off your bed. I was like that was something I would do.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, because she's so excited about it. And then when they get home he gets like a call or a text from his mom and she's like what does she want? Um, and he has to go out of town because back in the day his dad invested in a brewery and now they have annual meetings but his dad can't go, so he has to go, kind of like in place of him. And she is like, oh okay, that's fine, you know whatever. And the next day and she is like, oh okay, that's fine, you know whatever. And the next day she's like I think I'm sick, you're gonna leave me here when I'm sick. Like she's a helpless kitten. She's kind of like panicking about him leaving, about like what if the roads get bad? What if you get in a car accident? What if?

Speaker 2:

you drink too much coffee and you speed, you spin off the road and you die.

Speaker 1:

I'm like, oh, intrusive thoughts yeah, and, and he's like yeah, I think you're sick, I think you have the.

Speaker 2:

I think your love's sick your love's sick and he's like.

Speaker 1:

From first hand experience I know what that feels like. That was my first. But so he has to leave and then the next day she has a job interview at a campground, which I thought was kind of funny. A camp host would be fun if I didn't freak myself out so easily yeah, um, he gets her a pair of his overalls, so he has these overalls he wears all the time.

Speaker 1:

They're really warm he gets her a pair that are her size, so she's wearing those in his silly goofy hat on her way to this job interview. She likes, they're like texting and he tells her to uh, drive by the junkyard on his on her way there. So she does and she sees Leon's car in there and throughout the book, like you've seen, like Leon and Nicholas kind of connect, like they're kind of friends, they go fishing together and they, you know, just kind of I don't know our friends now all of a sudden. So she drives by and she sees leon's car there and so she stops and he has bought the place and he is making it this rustic themed buffet.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, he wants to hire naomi and she's over the moon about this because all she wants is a workplace where she can like, have the freedom to be creative. But then she also, like, wants to really like the people that she works with and you know the vibe that she had at the junkyard to feel like she belongs talk about she's got some childhood trauma there, um, and so he wants to hire her. And then she also calls her other friend I don't remember what her name is, I'm so sorry Brandy. Yeah, I think it is Brandy, and Brandy also wants to work there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, she had the creepy boss, yes, okay, yeah, she works at the diner.

Speaker 1:

Yeah and uh, so the three of them are back together now.

Speaker 2:

The three musketeers. Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1:

We forgot to talk about it. About what With the phone. Nicholas thought that Naomi was cheating on him with Zach and she's like, oh, zach and his boyfriend are going to get a real kick out of that. And he's like, huh, but Zach has moved somewhere else Florida, and so he's not going to be working there Florida, and Melissa isn't either. Moved somewhere else, florida, and so he's not going to be working there Florida, and Melissa isn't either. She actually takes Melissa's name tag because he was going to offer it to her and she throws it in the trash.

Speaker 2:

In the garbage, yeah.

Speaker 1:

And then she's talking with Brandy and Brandy says something about the job applications that she's been submitting and it's Melissa's number on there as a reference. And Brandy says something about the job applications that she's been submitting and it's Melissa's number on there as a reference. So Melissa's been sabotaging allegedly all of these jobs that she's been applying for and that's why she hasn't been getting them. It's because Melissa's the reference number on them. So it's all very fun and she's very excited about working with them again. And she's like texting Nick Nicholas because he knew about it. He knew that Leon was going to offer it that sneaky boy. And that's essentially what she says to him, like you knew. And she is like, oh, I miss you. And then she goes home and she's so tired she's been up since what 3 that morning or something, when he left, and she goes and she sleeps in Nicholas's bed.

Speaker 1:

No, and she thinks she's going to like oh, I'll just pull this off and be out of here before he even does it, because it smells like him and she just wants to be close to him. And she wakes up and he's there. And she just wants to be close to him. And she wakes up and he's there and she's like what are you doing here?

Speaker 2:

And he's like you said you were missing me and it's very cutesy, and in my notes he drove through the night just to come sleep next to her, so tweet.

Speaker 1:

Literally they end up sleeping together. Yep, which is like finally.

Speaker 2:

Yep. Pay off here to think that we had to go that far into the book we're almost to the end for the record. Yeah yeah, if this wasn't for podcasts, I think we'd have been like are you gonna finish it? But I'm glad I did, because so good oh, it's just so funny.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I think that really made it for me. You know, this really had a rom-com feel to it, which is nice.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I'd be shocked if this never becomes a movie. Yeah, Because like it's perfect.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. So while they're in the makings of this, he says like, say you love me, or something like that, because he feels like she doesn't and she's like, of course I love you. And then they finish up and you. And then, um, they finish up and they say something. They have like these moments in the book about, like, how they met and it's a different story every time. So then they're like oh, do you remember how we met? And then you get the real story of how they met. Keep in mind, nicholas never says it back. When they met they went. She was going bowling for her dad's retirement party.

Speaker 2:

This confused me so much. I just like, just no. I just got confused when what you're about to describe happens, happens, I'm like no, we no we finally like Nicholas, what are you doing?

Speaker 1:

I don't think this was weird, and that's okay. Oh, okay, yeah, that's okay, I just thought it was kind of odd. Anyway, so she's there for the retirement. Her family is just like a hot mess express. He is in the lane next to them and she's like can I just pretend that I'm here with you? And he's like oh, yeah, sure. And so she starts bullying with him and she's like they're so embarrassing, like I'm so sorry, and he.

Speaker 2:

I was washing the dishes when I was reading or listening on Audible to this, so that's why I was confused. I didn't realize she came up to him. I thought this rando just came up to her and she just started flirting right back. And I'm like you just decided you loved your man and now you're like what? Okay, never mind. Now this makes complete sense. I take it back.

Speaker 1:

And then something happens and he's like we should go on a date. And she's like right now. And he's like, yeah, why not? And it turns out like it's his birthday and he doesn't really enjoy his birthday. He doesn't really like what he usually does, and so he's like this is the first birthday I've actually enjoyed, um. And then she's like oh, you don't want to go on a date with me, I'm not from here, because they're in like a different town. And he's like yeah, yeah, I'm not from. Or she's like I'm from so-and-so. And he's like, yeah, me too. I actually saw you at the grocery store a couple weeks ago, but thought it'd be weird if I just walked up to you in the parking lot and to him he's like this is fate, like we're from the same town, but I didn't talk to her now and now. But I didn't talk to her now and now she's here. And then she came up and she approached me.

Speaker 2:

It's a sign Exactly, we've been calling each other.

Speaker 1:

And so that's how they met. And then they go on that date and it's meant to be so. The next morning and she sees that the wedding invites her in the trash and she's hysterical over it because now she thinks he really doesn't want to get married to her and she just he never said that he loved her back and it just like sends her into this girl. I get it spiral and so she leaves and he's like trying to talk to her and she just phone backseat, cut off communication completely, and so she takes off and she's having a whole meltdown over it. And then she starts driving back when it's late at night and she goes to the diner that they used to go to and she's like I know as soon as I swipe my credit card because I don't have any cash on me, he's gonna find me and he's gonna be here.

Speaker 1:

And that's exactly what happens. And she's like you win, like it's over, it's done whatever, like I just want to be done with it. And he's like what are you talking about? And she's like you threw our wedding invites away and she's very sad about it. And she brings up that he never said that he loved her back and he says I do say I say it all the time, like when you leave the room or after we hang up on the phone and I'm like, oh, yeah, but say it to my face and when you hang up the phone, sorry.

Speaker 1:

Well, at the time, like he, didn't feel like it was appropriate because they were they were hating each other. Yeah, but he's always loved her. Essentially the reason why he threw them away because he's like do these feel like us? Do these feel like these are our wedding invites?

Speaker 2:

I was proud of her for being a little bit gentle and she's like nope, but it's your mom's favorite color and your mom's this and that, and she picked them because she made them, because she's the one that wants to marry you, yeah, and it's like oh, but then she does ultimately agree and so they start like throwing him in the dumpster, crumpling him up and throwing him in the dumpster, and it was really funny and it's like cause.

Speaker 1:

Then he also says like I don't want anybody at our wedding that isn't supportive of us, and I don't think that there's a single person on this list. Really that has been that Like. So they just started throwing him in the dumpster and it's like if you're uninvited and she Look here.

Speaker 2:

Uncle Roger, that I haven't seen in my life.

Speaker 1:

Also, some of the people that were invited to this wedding are, like his mom's classmates or something like that Silly. Well, how else is she going to show up? Silly People from church? Oh, that, yeah, it was so silly.

Speaker 2:

And then my favorite is when parents say they get their own guest list. That's my personal favorite, silly.

Speaker 1:

And then she's doing it and she says, if I make this shot, you have to marry me, not someday now? And he's like okay, bet, I someday now. And he's like okay, bet, I'm like because she's still unsure if he wants to marry her. So this is her way of like okay, we're throwing these away, but like, what's the plan here?

Speaker 2:

and he gets off the car walks over it puts it into the trash.

Speaker 1:

It's so, and he's like I'm not taking any more chances I was at this point doing the dishes listening.

Speaker 1:

It's so sweet, yep. So they are driving by the junkyard and it turns out one of the owners of the junkyard previously is a minister. Of course they have to pull over and talk to him and, uh, the only people or they were gonna get married like do a destination wedding. And they were like, why don't we just do it at home, like we don't have to pay to go anywhere. It's beautiful, it can be just us and who we want. And so it ends up being them um, brandy and le and the minister, and that is it. And she wears coveralls and he wears coveralls and it's If that's your thing, it's very cute, like it's so sweet. Well, also, like when he's telling her to get ready, he like put them by the door. So when she opened them, they were there and I just thought it was so cute. And wears her hair and like a flower crown. It just is all very sweet and I liked it.

Speaker 2:

Um, if this were a movie, this would be the part where, like the cameras, all you're seeing is her grabbing random shit you know, and then like going down the staircase only from the back.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, like it would be very cute um, and then he says something of like, or one of them says something about like, like getting the opportunity to like know each other again, and I thought that was really sweet and I thought it really summed up like relationships in general, because you always change and things are always going to be different, and like navigating through that. I think these two clearly could have done a better job if they would have just talked to each other. Also, they're a year and a half in, so like, come on, yeah, but um, it was very cute and I thought it was really good. I liked it same, I agree.

Speaker 2:

maybe I'll give it like a 4.8. I did, I have to say. There's one part where she talks about how, when they're standing there holding hands and you gotta like say your vows, and how they don't remember anything they're saying as they're saying yeah, valid. I used to laugh at people going, oh yeah right, I don't remember a damn thing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I tell almost everybody elope and you're just there to get married. At the end of the day, literally nothing else matters. Yep, You're there to get married. Yep, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, but, yes, this, tied up in a little bow, perfect ending. Happiness Loved it. Mwah Susie. What's fan cast? Fan cast is if we were going to make this a movie or a TV show, what actor, actress, entertainer, who would you choose?

Speaker 1:

Yep, okay, start with our main choose, yeah, okay, start with our main gal, naomi Naomi.

Speaker 2:

I chose Anna Kendrick Because like that inner monologue snarky. That's a really good one actually yeah, I love you, Anna Kendrick.

Speaker 1:

I do too. I chose Ella Purnell, and she is from the new Fallout TV series.

Speaker 2:

She's in a lot of other things I feel like I've seen. Yeah, oh, okay. I just really like her, I think it's a good choice.

Speaker 1:

I like her look. Yes, I like that she could play, because I think Naomi is a little quirky. Yes, like she's got like her. She works at a place called the Junkyard, you know, like she does very extravagant things with her makeup and cut her hair here, like she's just kind of a quirky little gal.

Speaker 2:

So, nicholas, it's funny that that's also the actor's name. I had Nicholas Holt. I love him From the Great.

Speaker 1:

I know that.

Speaker 2:

Nicholas is blonde in this book. I mean, I love him From the great.

Speaker 1:

I love him. I know that Nicholas is blonde in this book, but it was too. I mean I love him. Yeah, I did. Richard Madden Damn. That's a good choice. He's from a lot of things Game of Thrones, okay. He's from Game of Thrones. Okay, so that was who I chose for him. I had to cast Deborah Rose. I know I did. I had to.

Speaker 2:

And it was Catherine O'Hara Okay, because I just thought of Moira Rose the whole time. Oh, that is so good, moira is not this toxic or bad, but like nobody could yeah.

Speaker 1:

I think this is just meant to be here, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Nicholas, oh my God. And then the last person, brandy. I had Florence, pa-po Pew, yeah whatever Florence. Pew, whatever it may be. I was just saying Florence P because I didn't want to butcher it. Sorry, florence.

Speaker 1:

Here's a bit of Kylie lore. I have the biggest girl crush on Florence Pew. How could you not? Oh my gosh, I think she's fantastic and I love everything she does and I love her face and I love her voice and I love her little cooking videos.

Speaker 2:

She was in the movie that I sobbed to last night.

Speaker 1:

I just adore her. Oh my god, I think she's great. It's okay, excellent choice. Oh, you watched in time. What was it called? Again, we Live in Time, we Live in Time, we Live in Time. I know my limits and that's one of them. I'm not gonna be able to make it through that movie.

Speaker 2:

Eric had never seen me ugly cry that hard.

Speaker 1:

I cry at how to Train your Dragon. Okay, I'm not gonna be able to handle that. I need to, though I can't. It's sad. Well, know your limits, susie. I I'm a glutton for punishment, okay. Final thoughts.

Speaker 2:

I don't know. It feels.

Speaker 1:

Like that monkey.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. Final thoughts, let this book be an example. Express your feelings.

Speaker 1:

Express your feelings. Yeah, hey, maybe talk on occasion. Occasion also, don't pretend everything's happy dory on instagram when you're miserable.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, because that was annoying.

Speaker 1:

You have to go mass delete a lot of your instagram once you stop doing that the love of her life, from experience, not now just for the record, mr diamond jeans, diamond Jeans, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Diamond Jeans. Oh, there's so much I could go on, but it's okay, that'll be another Book Bites episode. That'll be a special mini.

Speaker 1:

I really like it. I will read more by her. I ate it up breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was good. It was a great rom-com, like genuinely funny. It was good, it was a great rom-com Like genuinely funny, genuinely funny If this.

Speaker 2:

I also think that a I'm not like trying to call her old, but she wouldn't be casted for this role now. A young Cameron Diaz could nail this really well too.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's so funny. I love her.

Speaker 2:

Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, okay, okay, yeah, okay, okay, that'll be it. Yep, like, subscribe, follow, share all the things, all of them. Okay, bye.
